The Stronghold of Social Media: Holding Minds Into Captivity – Rev. James Solomon

What consistently holds your attention will eventually influence your spiritual growth. Guard your mind, prioritize God’s presence, and refuse to allow digital distractions to replace daily devotion.

Sermon Notes

2 Corinthians 10:3–5

3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

Social media is not inherently evil, but it can become a stronghold when it continually competes for our attention and distracts us from God. Research shows increasing screen time, declining spiritual discipline, reduced attention spans, and inconsistency in prayer and Bible study among many believers. While social media may not remove faith, it can gradually weaken spiritual habits and create a pattern of distraction.

The enemy often works through subtle captivity. What captures our attention eventually shapes our affections, influences our habits, and ultimately impacts our lifestyle. As believers, we are called to guard our minds, cast down every thought that opposes the knowledge of God, and remain disciplined in prayer, worship, fellowship, and the study of Scripture.
